I am 18 and really interested in learning all i can about mind altering substances and know a little bit about everything, butI was just wondering if anyone knows of any interesting jobs that deal with anything related to drugs?
Psychopharmacology, toxicology, biochemistry, drug prevention are fields of interest.

take up chemistry in college i guess that would be tight if you wanted to learn to make drugs
If i would be anything that had to do with drugs, id be a pusher or a chemist, just because i was born loving chemistry and mixing chemicals, and being a pusher would just be fun. Or maybe growing weed, there is alot of that where i live.
Just don't blow your face off. Even experts make mistakes- mistakes can be deadly, I've seen a whole house go up over that S$%T,first came the explosion, then the flames. Then the 'hood found out what happened- her 3 kids burned. Her husband made off with the dope, though----

I don't know about drug jobs, but I do know about jobs where doing drugs makes things really fun. Try Mrs. Fields Cookies, Basket Robins, etc..
A lifeguard on shrooms, thats what my friend does.
I'm assuming in a pool, not the ocean. Hopefully he doesn't ever have to perform CPR- that would bug my high instantly.

Sounds like alot of paper work to me,i dont think his job is very fun, he may get access to alot of substances, but if you really wanted them you could rob a lab, even a highschool lab has alot fo chemicals.

lol, no most of those chemicals can't be obtained from labs in the U.S.
He has basically has a license to make any drugs he wants, test them, report about them, and the DEA lets him because he can testify what certain drugs do.
Look up his books PihKaL and TihKal ... you can find them free to read on the internet at erowid.org
Yeah i know. I didnt read any, and i dont know what PihKal and TihKal are, tihkal(sp?) 2000 is an album, either method mans or wutang, or maybe redmans, i forget.

i had a friend in high school who was a huge stoner, well college came up, and he's a botonist....haha..no shock..but apperently it's good work..he enjoys it
might consider that
when i used to dance.. my gfs and I would laugh and say it'd be cool to be a vice cop.. just think .. you visit sleazy bars, see naked women, get paid off, score free drugs..etc etc.. :>
work in your local chemist that would be a good place to start,become a drug zsar

Dude, Pharmacology is a good feild to explore if you are interested in drugs. Also for some good reading and great info on drugs from alchohol to ecstacy check out the book "Buzzed" its a non biased straight up fact based book written by a bunch of doctors from the duke university medical center. its not your typical drug book, it dosent say use or dont use its philosophy is "Just say Know" and it has a wealth of information.

Both editions have errors. Although I love the fact that its not telling you not to take drugs or tell you to do anything, I dont recomend it for some information.

I asked myself the same question as the topicstarter and now I'm 24 andalmost finished withmy study Drug Innovation at the university, specialized in Psychofarmacology.

Well .. it really depends what you're interested in learning about mind altering substances.

But really - you could become a brain imaging lab tech (only a couple
years in college) and apply for work with people who study drugs.
A huge bonus is you'd make big bucks! They're in huge demand right now I think.

Here's what I do when I'm bored...
I own the PDR (phisicians desk reference), pill book, etc...
Go to a website where people are giving imprint codes to find out what pills are what, and help them get the info they need.
Just do it slightly different. Go to a psycadelic substance forum (like
this one) and search for answers for people over the net!
Kills time and is fun if you've got insomnia like me!
I've heard that being a pharmacist in the US is not much of a cool job. You basically have to learn everything that a pre-med student has to learn and then at the end you are stuck in some shitty job at CVS where you have basically no authority or control over your situation. I'm sure that this is not everyone's experience and that there are other options out there for pharmacy professionals, but just being the person who prepares the prescriptions is not really very fun.

You can get hold of very tiny amounts of drugs, that's my experience.
Some time ago, a guy who worked at the lab i'm working at, let's call him swim,got hold of 100 to 500 grammes (nowone knows for sure untill today...) of pure cocaine, but this is something you will only manage to do once in a lifetime.
Normally the chemicals you are working with as a pharmacologist are heavily watched so you'd have to be asenior researcher or something to get hold of quantative amounts of drugs.
Best job in the world... to own a nice coffe shop in Amsterdam. :D

goverment organ that supervised the police, everytime he got stopped by
a cop the conversation will lead towards the lines of "sorry to delay
you sir, would you like us to escort you to your destination?"

if you are of the extremely laid back type, yet have a knack for talking to people, try working graveyard at a 24hr convenience store....

ahh organic chemistry is definitely a good field to go into. Of course if you want to make any money in the field you will have to get a P.H.D which takes roughly 8 years, so it might not be worth it for a lot of people. But if you are really interested in the chemistry behind drugs and how they are made organic chemistry is definitely for you.
