View Full Version : Opinions - daily xanax (Alprazolam) dosage sound ok to SWIMers?
SWIM gets Rxd Alprazolam 2mg and is told to take 2 a day and swim takes 1mg every 4-6 hrs. not always 2 full bars but at night if he goes out late or can not sleep the 4th dosage of 1mg is necessary. he has been taking his medication by this regiment for the past 4 days and has felt great results. sleepy but very little it does not SWIM form performing above his teachers expectations in class when he takes his morning dose.
SWIMs question is how long will this quantity a day the way SWIM is going through it go well? will he have to raise his dose sooner or later? or can SWIM take frequent breaks and then continue on what has helped him?
EDIT: also SWIM has had alprazolam Rxed for maybe 6 month but never took them much for various reasons so there rly is no tolerance.

Swim is just glad to hear that swiy doesn't take them much and hasn't developed a tolerance.Swim has never been through benzo withdrawals but hears that they make even opiate withdrawals seem pleasant.Swim just can't even begin to imagine something that horrible!

SWIM took 1mg of xanax per night for a month or two... Kept the same dosage, same dosing time, and it seemed to have the same effect on SWIM if he remembers correctly for that month or two. This was several years ago so SWIM can't rememeber the exact details about everything but...
The problem was is that SWIM began sleeping in later and later... eventually until 4pm in the afternoon... while going to bed at maybe midnight or 2am... something like that. Basically 14 hours of sleep per night for SWIM. SWIM cannot blame this on the xanax though for sure as it could have also been a result of depression, it was a real hard time for SWIM. SWIM had kicked opiates(not hard ones, just percocet/hydrocodone) for the first time in his life, and was suspended from the university due to grades. SWIM was not taking any illegal drugs either, nor drinking.
When SWIM stopped using the xanax, he noticed only that he had insomnia for a night or two... granted though, SWIM was only after a period of less than 60 days... Long term use could be more severe, and also obviously with higher dosages as well. 4mg per day of xanax is pretty high dose in my opinion.
4mg does not seem so much though, 1st his doc had always told him to take 1mg up to 4 times daily(but when do they ever know 100% whats all gravy) i try to take less if possible.
recently as well SWIM had a small habit of opiates (oxycodone/hydromorphone) mainly. 2-3 times a week. He realized he didnt want to do it anymore because he saw a couple times where he used it as an escape. and SWIM respecting these substances the way he does did not like realizing that and called it quits.
SWIM took 1mg at bedtime for 3 days just because insomnia and a week later he got his RX and thought "ya know i never rly stuck or even tried much taking the alprazolam the way the doc says to. so i have been the last couple days and ive felt great(i would not say high, except the first 2 days because SWIM had 0 tolerance).
today SWIM will be at home most of the day so he will not be taking 4mg, maybe close to 2 IF needed. oh and he also does stay away from drinking, cut down on MJ consumption (smoked a lot) and is usually the designated driver or if he does drink it is like 1-2 bottles and no hard alchohol.
o and past info SWIM has had alprazolam Rxed for 6-8 months probly never taking much because SWIMs "friends" stealing little by little and if SWIM took it for a week in a row he never had insomnia or any withdrawl symptoms. he also gets adderall Rxed (you can know that by SWIMs posts in the amphetamine forum.) but he has not seen his doc because he will not have insurance until he his a student again in september. so he has not consumed adderall in over 2 months (10mg Rxed SWIM would take 5mg and be fine)
