geting perscription refiled while abroad

does any one know how swim could travel abroad for a period upto a yr and still get there perscription medication? swim is going traveling or possibly moving to gran canaria for between six months and 1yr they are on alot of meds mainly benzo's and methadone swim wants to go away and sort life out but would need to detox slowly. any one got advice on this?

SWiA'd be best off speaking to his GP about this. May be covered by EHIC but not 100% sure, & the web site isn't as clear as it could be. There are contact numbers/email for enquiries though...

thanks micklemouse had quick look look's like it could have some info i am not so worryed about having to pay for the med's which the ehic would intitel me to but more worryed about the exspensive visits to doctors for repeat perscriptions as when swim whent away a few yrs back they where charged a small fortune to see a doctor. thank god for the nhs in some ways. but i will tellswim to spk to g.p for more advice swim knows he can take upto 400mls of methadone out of the uk with a leter from g.p any more you need home office permision but with the length of time swim is going for they want to come of the stuff slowly with out beeing around temptation they have in the uk.

swim was given this advice:

Over the counter medications are getting harder to obtain. When you are running out, then you can go to a private GP (us for example) and they can give you a private prescription for a spanish equivalent. Make sure you keep any records of previous prescriptions and the boxes they come in, to act as proof to what you have normally. Also, ask your GP for a summary of your consultations. It may help if you need to see a doctor.
