I was wondering how I would be able to get a prescription from my doctor for Xanax or Ambien.. i feel this will help me with my anxeity and sleep problems and i do not plan on using them for recreational use... but I was wondering how I could go about getting them? Is it as simple as going in and explaining my symptoms or will he prescribe something different???
He'll precribe what he feels is best for you in your particular situation. Just because you think Xanax will help doesn't mean that he will precribe it to you - Ativan is often the first benzo of choice for many doctors when dealing withnervous conditions. If you are simply looking to be treated then go and tell your doctor about your anxiety - Be truthful and he will help you - but the drug choice would be his. If something doesn't work then he will either up dosage or switch. Don't go in asking for Xanax - go in asking for help.

First step would be, going to your doctor. Your doctor will ask you questions and begin to understand your condition, and will pick the best type of medication he believes will work the best to helptreat your symptoms. You said that you have not just anxiety problems but also sleep problems, as well. I could see him maybe prescribing you ambien, but then again maybe not, since ambien is not used to help treat any sort of anxiety problems. If i were your doctor, i would prescribe you something different, such as Clonazepam,which is a benzodiazepine to help you. Clonazepam is closely related to Alprazolam(xanax), but it's not as strong. Clonazepam, is used to help treat anxiety, and sleep. Just go to your doctor, and tell him everything that you're feeling. Let us know how it goes!Edited by: pharmapsyche

well SWIM had anexperience with clonazepam before and it did not seem to work. are there any guidelines that doctors follow while prescribing anxiety medication?
