View Full Version : Using Drugs to Escape
I am not here to preach to anyone about drugs. I realize everyone has their own reasons why they do them-legal or illegal. I am writing a paper for school about people using drugs as an escape. I was wondering if this was true for anyone? If it is, could you please share your thoughts and your reasons (i.e. problems within the family, friends, weight loss, school)? Thanks.
I use drugs to enhance my life, not to escape it. For the same reasons the negatives should not outweigh benefits.
What many people do not realize is that drugs are not (or should not) be about escaping reality, but allowing yourself to understand and experience more of life, and to open your mind and make you realize how much we don't yet understand.
I can't really criticise those who do in fact use drugs as an escape, because everyone has their own ways to deal with their problems, and it's their own business, but those people have to realize that their problems will still be there, and there's no way drugs will make them go away.
It's a magical feeling I have enjoyed. I wasn't trying to escape, but to embrace. (Gently)
I think most people that use don't want to say they use them to escape, because some may think that it may be percieved as negative. Sayingyou use themtoenhanceyour lifeis just a sugar coated way of saying you escape. If you use them to enhance, the original was not good enough, in which, you are escaping the original.
If "most" people use substances to "escape", I am glad that I am not the majority. I feel that I have been able to see a different world and felt deeper emotions. It's almost as ifit has taken the "sugar coating" away and revealed reality. I canuncover people's thoughts, see the truth and discover new meanings.I connect on a different level.Excuse me for saying this but I feel bad for people that just live life by going through "the motions".
My"original" is great and I have no need to escape. To put it simply, I want to expierence more.
I really don't agree with this theory that just because you use drugs, your ordinary life wasn't good enough, and you are attempting to escape it. Surely it is possible that a drug user is perfectly happy with his/her life, and simply wants to percieve it in a different way, and gain a better understanding of it. Wanting to experience more out of life is vastly different from escaping it.

Sorry I wasn't clear before. This isn't a theory that I was generalizing.I by no means ment thatEVERYONEthat uses drugs, "theirordinary life wasn't good enough, and[they] areattempting to escape it." I was applying it to Alfa's situation who saidhe/she wanted to enhancehis/her life. I guess I didn't see anything abouthim/her saying they wanted topercieve it in a different way. I must not have understood it right. Thanks for clarifying what they ment.
"revealed reality"...If is were reality it wouldn't need to be revealed. That is the definition of reality, the state of being real or genuine. It is not real or genuine if something is needed to see it.
Wow that last post sounds kind of snotty...it is not ment to be

I first used LSD because I was curious. Simply a matter of "what does this stuff really do"? I didn't think it would kill me and being drunk and stoned wasn't really what I was looking for. Well after trippin' i discovered If you aren't satisfied with normal reality, you certainly wont be satisfied with LSD reality. LSD changes your perception of reality in the effect that you eventually realize that it is fake and that real reality is much better than fake reality (in my own humble opinion).
What Thesis said was really cool and true. Right on.
It wasn't snotty in my opinion, for what it's worth.

I used illegal drugs because I was curious about the effects. I wanted to find out exactly what they do. Well, I got some, used them for quitea while, found out what they did, actually kind of liked them for a while. Then they got "old" and I got bored with being high so I stopped. I like a simple, drug free life, less hassle and more simplicity.
I do drugs because they open new worlds, worlds wich i explore. Wich makes me an explorer of sorts.

i am sure everyone knows drugs are not the solution to problems before they take drugs and when you are sober up after using drugs, you get back to reality. at first i hated what drugs made me think and do, and how it affected me but then i realised how i could use the way it affected me to explore my inner-self.
when you are on drugs, you only think of things that are above your mind and beyond imagination. it pulls you out of morality and gernal thoughts. and you begin to understand 'the world is more than that'
hopefully i make sense, cos i am a bit stoned right now..
but it proves how cannabis affects my mind....lol
The only thing I use drugs to escape from is boredom.

I do drugs cuz it makes like better! Think about thers war going on, thers ppl dieing and suffering! I dont need to hear about that! Drugs lets u laugh at stupid ppl like bush, After trippin on mushrooms i felt more open to stuff after doing xtc im a much nicer person! Psychedelics have shown me that patience is a virtue! Ifu wanna understand thsi pickup 4 grams of good mushrooms and eat them all find out what its like. You cant write a paper on other ppls experiences they could b exagerated and fake. Have ur own experiences! http://www.drugs-forum.com/forum/smileys/smiley32.gif

Someone once said, wherever you go, there you are. I find it extremely delusional that people take anything to escape, because ultimately, you take you with you on whatever drug you choose to do. For some, it may relieve pain for a moment in time, or take you to a different plane that enables you to see things from a different perspective.
For me, I am not an addict. I dont smoke pot often, I dont drink often, although I do like my absinthe now and again, the occasional bowl, and the mind opening mind bend that cactus, salvia and mushrooms offer. I put nothing up my nose at all, other than my finger, lol.
I do love my etheogens tho. They arent something I take lightly, or foolishly either. I have made it a life goal, to know as much as I can about these wonderous God given things, since I believe they were put here for our use. I in no way judge people for doing other synthetic drugs, because I believe everything is a life experience, and ultimately good comes from them no matter how horrendous they appear at the moment. Even in death. Now dont go off the deep end with that statement, but it does give alot of people a reality check when someone dies from drug overdose.
Being bipolar, I do have to take pharms now and then, and am pretty much have a life that requires xanax daily.
I believe that all etheogens have healing properties to them. Mushrooms leave me with an ssri type effect for about 7 days after dosing, salvia, while being extremely chaotic, does clear my mind for a long period afterward, and cactus is just about the best as far as all around healing, physically and mentally.
Anything in excess isnt good for anyone, that is the key. And a very good peice of advise to live by. Also, everything is what you make it to be http://www.drugs-forum.com/forum/smileys/smiley4.gif
Mushrooms are great :) One downside tho.. I had sex for like four hours straight and I couldn't cum.. weird huh?
i would say that some drugs can have such a powerfull effect like dissasociatives, which is going to seperate you form your 'normal' surroundings.i have heard of ppl high on dxm and claimging to be contatced by aliens and all kind so wierd shi*t,so these are dangeroues drugs if they fall into he wrong hands.i think most safe entheogens when usedwisely by responsible informed adults can have a postivie effects, and dose'nt neccesseraily allways have to be viewed in a negative or damageingway, that the'escapeing form reality'phrase seems to give all drugs in general
