Trazadone is a non-benzodiezapine sleep aid. Its a schedulle V substance and dosent have much recreational value at all. I have taken benzos with opiates many times and have not had any sickness because of it. Try X'ing the Trazadone or lowing the methadone.

Actually, trazodone HCL is an antidepressant that happens to cause drowsiness for a lot of people, so it's often prescribed off-label as a sleep aid.

Trazodone

I've been subscribed trazodone as a sleep aid, and I found out it's also used recreationally. I've taken as many as 5, and in the end became nothing but tired.
Has anyone had a real positive experience with it recreationally?

I do not think Trazodone has any recreational value. It is a an antidepressant with some sedative properties.

The only "party" that trazodone would likely be good for would be a Slumber Party. Good for chronic insomnia, but not much else.

Trazodone is an excellent med for insomnia but for recreation? No way, IMO! Actually, the pharmacology of trazodone shows a complete lack of recreational value. Trazodone inhibits serotonin uptake in the brain. It is a 5-HT(2A/2C) antagonist, which is why it's such a good sleep-aid. Instead of acting on the inhibitory neurotransmitter GABA it acts directly on the "sleep-inducing" neurotransmitter serotonin, or rather on two subtypes of serotonin receptors. Trazodone is not an anxiolytic.

I use to be prescribed trazodone myself. It always put me to sleep. Not really put me to sleep, actually. It forced me asleep. It would be painful to have this stuff hit me if I wasn't laying in bed because it was so sedating. I had to fight my way through drowsiness and weakness until I was safe in my bed!

I was prescibed this drug for my insomnia.
Worked very well for a few months, but after that it didn't put me to sleep anymore.
So my doc gave me 2 mg Lorametezepam, i take them every 3 days, because of the tolerance and the potential danger of getting addicted to them.
Loramet is a great sleeping pill.

But back ontopic, Trazodone has zero recreational value.
Even when i tried to stay awake, i felt all dizzy and wasn't able to walk straith.

After a search it doesn't sound like it has much potential to me. It might provide some sort of "high" but it doesn't sound like anything worth trying to me thats for sure. Here are symptoms of overdose taken from drugs.com

Symptoms of a trazodone overdose include drowsiness, nausea, vomiting, seizures, an irregular heart beat, difficulty breathing, painful erection, and death.

Painful erection...ouch.

It doesn't say much about the actual action of this drug though so it's hard to say. This is all it really says-"Trazodone is an antidepressant medication. It works by changing the actions of chemicals in the brain." I suppose the fact it says changes actions of chemicals in the brain is a dead givaway there is some sort of potential. Though it could just be an MAOI or SSRI but I imagine it would say so somewhere in there, there are also some MAOI's that some concider recreational. My guess is it does something with serotonin, what exactly it does is a mystery to me.

After looking more, it's apparant it's not an MAOI.

Can I ask why this is in "Amphetamine and Adderall" forum?

SWIM tried sniffing a small amount of Trazodone, maybe a few pills worth, but felt no effects (not even drowsiness). Maybe it's just him, because he ended up mixing what he didn't sniff with water and drinking it, without getting real tired at all. IIRC, there were sixteen pills consumed in total, minus some lost while SWIM crushed them up with a hammer.

Trazodone is an atypical antidepressant with sedative properties. It is an antagonist of 5-HTP(2A/2C) receptors. It is not an SSRI nor an MAOI. Intranasal administration of trazodone is essentially pointless due to it's molecular weight. It doesn't matter anyway since trazodone lacks abuse potential. There is evidence that it might act as a slight anxiolytic, however. But even with anxiolytic action, trazodone has no pharmacological possibility of recreational effects.

Trazodone isn't all bad. It's really nice to take one right before you get ready for bed. You might try that instead of sniffing it.

Usually prescribed along with adderall, to help with sleep. Swims son was taking them, but quit due to the fact that he was hard to wake up in the morning.

I sniffed Trazadone once - just smelled like any other tablet...

Trazadone is a tricyclic antidepressant, and as such are one of the older and dirtier classes of this type of medication. Tricyclics are thought to work by blocking the re-uptake of noradrenaline and serotonin by the nerves (tricyclics, esp amitryptiine, are also used to treat neuralgia).

Tricyclics are rarely used for depression these days because they are seriously dangerous (read often fatal!) in overdose, so any discussion about trying to find a recreational dose above the recommended is just plain dumb, to be blunt, and will only end in tears somewhere along the line.
