Xanax (alprazolam) has a shorter duration then many other benzo's because it has a short half-life. Meaning the time required for half the amount of a drug to be eliminated from the body is shorter then others. |

It reaches peak plasma levels (ie. hits, comes on,etc.) faster then some and longer then others, but that doesn't necessarily have anything to do with its' half-life. It passes through your system faster then some others of the same class. Just the way that this particular benzo works.

I believe that you are getting your info from outdated sources.I amsourcing mydata from themost up to date resources of half life info on benzo's. IMHO, not "crap". As you put it. LoL... Triazolam may be a benzo with one of the shortest half-life's (at 2 hours). Right next to ketazolam (also 2 hours). However, alprazolams' half-life is between 6 - 12 hours. Putting it on the lower half-life end of the benzo family.Edited by: BlueMystic |

I agree the half life of xanax is 6 to 12 hours, for me it's more towards 4 hours or so. But each individual will be different.

Mean HL is 11.2 hours ranging from 6.3-26.9 hours depending on the
genetic dispostion of the liver enzyme CYP 3A4. Taking St John's Wort at the same time increases the levels of this enzyme, thus decreases it's half life. Drinking grapefruit juice at the same time inhibits the production of this enzyme, thus increasing the plasma half life. So by running out and getting bottles of St John's Wort and grapefruit juice and taking some over a period of time, you can actually kinda sorta control the half life by altering your liver's function. no youre totally wrong. the studies youre thinking of are done with the newer generic xanax which are only 20% as effective as the real thing. xanax lasts at least one whole day. I should know, Im PRESCRIBED THE CRAP. and I only buy the name brand pfizer xanax. one 2 mg pill will have you relaxed all day and put you to sleep at night. WHATS MORE. it does NOT hit faster like the more immediately sedating benzos (oxazepam, clonazepam et cetera). the entire idea of xanax therapy is for ALL DAY TREATMENT OF CHRONIC ANXIETY. it is not one of the more immediately effecting benzos, moreover its more often prescribed BECAUSE of this. you kids should really talk to your doctors. =/Edited by: allyourbase |

there is no way that generics are 20% of a brand name, the shit is regulated by the FDA and they have very tough standards. come on man, you think your opinion outweighs mad amounts of scientific research. anyone looking for legit information, disregard the posts referring to a 20hr half life and 20% strength of generics. also xanax is used for immediate effect, its really not meant to be taken everyday. |

Xanax is AB rated to it's generics. That means after exhaustive
independent clinical trials the two tablets have been proven beyond any doubt to be pharmacologically equivalent. If you honestly think the branded half life is longer than the generic it is a textbook example of the placebo effect. "I should know - I'm in pharmacy school" |
